About us

Phlebotomists take blood samples to help diagnose and monitor medical conditions.

You can attend this department if you are:

  • A patient under the care of the hospital
  • Under 18 years of age
  • Requiring a specialist blood test that cannot be carried out by your GP surgery because of the type of test or your individual needs

Patients with a GP blood test request

If your GP has requested a routine blood test, you should attend your own GP surgery to have the test carried out.

If your GP has requested a specialist blood test, your GP surgery must email the department with details of the test and the reason it has been requested before an appointment can be arranged.

Anticoagulation patients

If you are monitored by the anticoagulation clinic, you should attend your own GP surgery for your blood tests.

Blood tests for children

Children under the age of 16 will be seen by our phlebotomy team.

Children may be accompanied by one parent or guardian (please contact us if they need special assistance).

All children under the age of 16 will need their parent/guardian to book an appointment via email before attending.

Children under the age of three or those with complex needs will need to have their bloods undertaken with the Paediatric Department.

Children are seen on Saturdays, unless there is a time-sensitive blood test that needs to be done during the week.
