Woodpecker Ward is currently being used to treat patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.
It is a general medical ward where we care for patients with a variety of medical conditions.
The ward has a dedicated consultant-led team which provides care to our patients - predominantly over the age of 65.
We have a dedicated ortho-geriatric team of doctors who care for our older patients with orthopaedic conditions.
This team consists of an associate specialist in ortho-geriatric care and a ward-based doctor.
They work very closely with the nursing team, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and social workers in caring for patients with complex needs.
Location
Great Western Hospital - Third Floor (please see Floor plan).

Patients, families and their carers have access to a dedicated phone line on each ward for direct communication; the phone can be taken to the patient's bedside - please ask a member of staff for details.
We ask that one member of the family conveys information to other family members, to avoid several calls to the ward.
