To be seen by a Weight Management Specialist Dietitian you will need a referral from your Consultant or GP.
This service is for people with a Body Mass Index (BMI):
- Greater than 35kg/m2 (with other health conditions) or
- Greater than 40kg/m2 (without any other health conditions)
To calculate your BMI please see the NHS website: BMI Indicator.
We see patients in a one-to-one appointment, followed by further individual appointments or group sessions.
The aim is to help people address both eating and thinking matters to help them lose weight and keep it off.
If your BMI is 25.0-29.9kg/m2 then it's above the ideal range and indicates you are overweight.
This means you are heavier than is healthy for someone of your height.
Excess weight can put you at an increased risk of:
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Some cancers
