Linnet Ward is part of the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and so is sometimes referred to as the Linnet Acute Medical Unit (LAMU).

Its primary role is to provide rapid definitive assessment, stabilisation, investigation and treatment for patients admitted urgently or as an emergency from the Emergency Department, and/or referred by their GP.

Linnet Ward admits patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Patients stay on the ward for up to 48 hours, during which time a care management plan is initiated by a consultant acute physician.

Following treatment on the ward, patients may be well enough to be discharged back into the community; or if requiring further inpatient specialist care, are admitted to the care of an appropriate specialty team within GWH.

Both Linnet Ward and Kingfisher Ward are supported by our Radiology and Cardiac Physiology departments and Intermediate Care.

Location

Great Western Hospital - third floor (please see Floor plan).

Visiting

This information shows the normal arrangements for visiting patients on this ward, but temporary restrictions may be in place, so please always first check Coronavirus (COVID-19): Visitor guidance.

Receiving visitors is an important part of the recovery process, and so they are welcome at any reasonable time.

We just ask that consideration is given so that all patients are able to rest as much as they want.

Contact

Tel: 01793 605263

Patients, families and their carers have access to a dedicated phone line on each ward for direct communication; the phone can be taken to the patient's bedside - please ask a member of staff for details.

We ask that one member of the family conveys information to other family members, to avoid several calls to the ward.
