The ENT Department provides specialist care for patients not only with conditions of the ear, nose and throat, but also for others in the head and neck area.
It is a consultant-led service (meaning that a fully qualified consultant is overseeing your care at all times).
We provide a wide range of outpatient clinics for all matters relating to ENT conditions and many procedures and minor operations can be performed in the same 'one-stop' visit.
We treat patients who have been referred from their:
- GP
- Practice Nurse
- Emergency Department
- Urgent GP/Nurse Centre
- Hospital doctor
We work closely with other ENT departments in the region, in particular the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
We also refer patients as required to:
- Bristol Children's Hospital
- Great Ormond Street Hospital
- The specialist Acoustic Neuroma team in Sheffield
If you need an operation you will be admitted to the Day Surgery Unit or, if you will need an overnight stay, to Meldon Ward.
Children who need to stay overnight will be on the Children's Unit.
We try whenever possible to do our Pre-operative Assessment Unit on the same visit as your outpatient appointment.

These are dealt with by our Audiology Department.
