Adult Inpatient Survey results highlight positive patient experiences

The latest Adult Inpatient Survey results have highlighted positive feedback from patients about their experiences of care during their hospital stay at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, reflecting the dedication and commitment of colleagues across the organisation.

The 2025 survey shows the Trust continues to perform in line with most NHS trusts across England in the vast majority of areas measured. Scores were comparable to other organisations in 47 survey questions, with the Trust performing better than most trusts in relation to how staff helped patients manage and control their pain.

The findings demonstrate the hard work of colleagues in delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care every day, while also recognising the Trust's ongoing commitment to improving the patient experience.

Encouragingly, the survey identified improvements in a number of key areas, including reducing noise at night, support with hygiene needs, nutrition and hydration, and pain management. More patients also reported feeling able to talk to staff about their worries and fears, reinforcing the Trust's patient-centred and personalised approach to care.

Luisa Goddard, Chief Nurse, said: "These results are a reflection of the commitment shown by our staff every day to delivering excellent care for our patients and I'm proud that our patients have confidence and trust in the staff treating them, and the environment they were cared for in.

"While it is reassuring that our results are in line with those of most trusts nationally across almost all areas measured, we know there is always more we can do.

"Feedback from our patients is incredibly important and helps us focus our improvement efforts where they can make the greatest difference.

"I would like to thank all our colleagues for their continued dedication, as well as the patients who took the time to share their experiences through the survey."

The survey also highlighted opportunities for further improvement, particularly around discharge planning and ensuring patients have clear information and support about the next steps in their care once they return home.

Work is already underway across a number of services to strengthen these aspects of the patient experience, and the Trust will now review the results in more detail to identify further opportunities to build on its strengths and continue improving care for patients across its hospitals.
