The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit is a surgical speciality which offers diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the:

- Face
- Neck
Services
The department offers diagnosis and treatment of diseases including assessment and treatment for common oral surgical conditions.
The speciality acts as a bridge between medicine and dentistry, and our consultants hold both qualifications.
The department also offers training for dental core trainees and registrars in oral surgery.
Our team manages a range of conditions including:
- Facial trauma
- Salivary gland diseases
- Facial deformities
- Facial pain
- Temporomandibular joint disorders
- Impacted teeth
- Cysts of the jaws
- Mouth ulcers and infections
Many of our nurses hold extended competencies enabling them to carry out:
- Suture removal
- Impression taking
- Dental radiography
Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons frequently work alongside other specialists including:
- Orthodontists
- Oncologists
- Neurosurgeons
- Plastic surgeons
- Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeons
