Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GWH) is proud to announce an important milestone in an ambitious global clinical trial that aims to use advanced genetic analysis to discover new and more effective treatments for life-threatening conditions such as sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), influenza, Group A Strep and pancreatitis.
The study, which opened to recruitment at the Trust in April 2020, has now enrolled its 100th local participant.
Principal Investigator, Dr Malcolm Watters, said:
“Reaching this milestone shows the commitment of our research teams and the willingness of our patients to get involved. I’m proud that together we’re helping to push forward discoveries that could change how we treat these life-threatening illnesses.”
This international project forms part of a growing portfolio of research activity at the Trust. GWH currently has 117 active clinical studies, all supported by its dedicated Research & Innovation (R&I) team.
Over recent months, the team has recruited 156 new participants across multiple studies and launched eight new research projects in areas including cardiology, critical care, neurology, radiology and reproductive health.
The R&I team continues to advance innovative, high-quality research opportunities for patients, ensuring the Trust plays a leading role in studies that improve healthcare and transform lives across Swindon and beyond.
