Consultant Outcomes Publication (COP) is an NHS England initiative, managed by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), to publish quality measures at the level of individual consultant doctors.
This initiative aims is to:
- Drive up the quality of care
- Help people choose the treatment that suits them best
- Ensure that every patient gets high-quality care
- Build improved services for the future
This is the first time that data on individual consultants has been published on this scale.
To comply with the Data Protection Act (1998), consultants had to agree to have results from their operations published and around 99% have so far done so.
Results that are not published are still analysed and acted upon as necessary by the NHS.
NHS England is committed to making even more information available about how services and professionals are performing.
