We operate a telephone reminder service for all patients with an outpatient appointment at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon or at one of our community hospitals in Wiltshire.

You will receive a text message or automated phone call about a week before your appointment to remind you about the location, date and time; and you will be asked to confirm, cancel or rearrange.

By providing a reminder, we can help patients who may have forgotten their appointment, and make it easier for patients who wish to cancel or rearrange it.

This reduces the number of missed appointments; and it gives us the chance to offer the appointment to another patient, which helps us minimise waiting times and save money.

If we have your mobile phone number you will receive a text reminder.

If we only have a landline number you will receive a call instead.

You will be reminded of the location, date and time of your appointment, and be given simple instructions to confirm, cancel or rearrange.

If you receive a call, you will be asked to confirm your date of birth before you hear your appointment details.

Yes - it's completely confidential and governed by strict regulations on privacy and Data Protection.

Calls may be recorded for quality and training purposes only.

No data is shared outside of the organisation.

No - you will not receive calls after 8.00pm.

Don't worry if you miss the call, your appointment will remain unchanged.

We might try to call you again later.

No - you will not be charged for this service.

If we already have your phone number, you don't need to do anything.

If you think that the number we have isn't up to date, then please contact the Booking Centre or advise the receptionist at your next appointment.

Patients are automatically opted in to receive reminders when an appointment is made; if you don't want a reminder, please contact the Booking Centre to let us know.
