There are two Occupational Therapists working in the Outpatient Department.

We are assigned to the Hand Therapy Team and provide a service for four days a week.
 
We see patients of all ages and with a wide variety of conditions ranging from rheumatoid arthritis to motor neurone disease.

We also work closely with our Hand Physiotherapy colleagues and offer rehabilitation programmes following hand surgery; treat conditions such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and carry out desensitisation programmes.
 
Our main focus is on splinting and as well as fitting off-the-shelf appliances, we also make bespoke splints, which are either static (fixed) or dynamic (aids movement).

Although we are known as the 'hands' Occupational Therapists, we also fit and make cervical collars and foot drop splints.
 
We will talk to you about issues such as joint protection (especially in connection with arthritis) and suggesting alternative aids to daily living in order to maintain your independence and help with pain management.
 
We provide support for newly diagnosed rheumatoid patients and provide term-time clinics at a local special school for children with learning disabilities.

If you are too unwell to attend a hospital appointment for treatment or splinting, we offer a home visiting service. Please contact us for more information.

Sharing skills

We are keen to share our skills with fellow professionals and would welcome the opportunity for colleagues to spend time with us.

We also provide clinical placements for Occupational Therapy students.
