Macmillan oncology dietitians
Macmillan oncology dietitians specialise in cancer and haematology care, and are able to provide nutritional advice and support to patients at any stage of their cancer journey.
They will help to optimise your nutritional well-being and quality of life.
The Macmillan Oncology Dietitian provides support to the Dove Haematology Inpatient Unit and outpatients attending the haematology clinics, oncology clinics and the chemotherapy unit.
They are available to see you during your chemotherapy treatment, at a clinic appointment or via a telephone conversation.
How they can help
The dietitian can provide support and advice if you are experiencing specific dietary problems as a result of the cancer itself or your cancer treatment.
This could include:
- Loss of appetite
- Unintentional weight loss
- Nausea and vomiting
- Taste changes
- Dry or sore mouth
- Changes in your bowel habits
- Swallowing difficulties
The dietitian can also help with minimising unintentional weight gain and support you with living well after your treatment by making healthier lifestyle choices.
Referral to a dietitian
To be seen by the Macmillan oncology dietitian you will need a referral from your consultant, keyworker nurse (cancer specialist nurse) or GP.
