White Horse Birth Centre at the Great Western Hospital

The White Horse Birth Centre is led by dedicated and professional Midwives and provides a homely, comfortable and family centred environment for you to give birth.

Our Midwives will be on hand to support you and your partner, in having a birth experience that meets your needs and wishes.

The Centre offers:

  • Four brand new home-from home birthing rooms all equipped to support natural labour, including slings to support alternative positions
  • Two birthing pools
  • A quiet room for early labour
  • Individual Midwifery care
  • An aromatherapy and massage service (in development)

Will I be able to have my baby at the White Horse Birth Centre? 

If you are considered to have a low risk pregnancy, and are otherwise fit and healthy, you will be able to have your baby at the White Horse Birth Centre, . Your Community Midwife will discuss all aspects of your birth plan with you and your partner including your options for place of delivery.

Visiting times

There are no set visiting times.


The White Horse Birth Centre is located on the second floor of the Great Western Hospital (please see Floor plans).

Please follow the signs for 'White Horse Birth Centre' and 'Hazel Ward', the White Horse Birth Centre is to the right of Hazel ward.


All visitors need to use the intercom system at the Birth Centre to gain access.

Please ensure that all visitors know the full name of the person they are visiting, otherwise they may not be allowed in.
