Wiltshire Dental Helpline

The Helpline provides information about local dental practices who have appointments available if you're in need of urgent dental treatment.

If you are not registered with an NHS dentist, then please call the helpline on 0345 7581926 (otherwise, please call your own dental practice first, as they will have their own process for providing urgent care).

Opening times

The Wiltshire Dental Helpline operates Monday-Friday 8.30am-5.00pm.

For services outside of these hours, please see Urgent dental care.

  • The Dental Helpline aims to be a signposting service for the public in matters relating to oral health issues
  • To assist patients with dental pain to access urgent dental care
  • To encourage registration of patients with a General Dental Practice (GDP)
  • To act as a signposting service for healthcare professionals in matters relating to dental services
  • Collect information from General Dental Practices relating to availability of NHS registration (ring around) on a monthly basis

From 8.30am-5.00pm Monday-Friday the caller will be able to:

  • Access urgent or routine dental care
  • Access urgent care within 48 hours of call at a Dental Access Centre or from time allocated by a General Dental Practitioner (Buying Time).
  • Access information of local practices registering NHS patients
  • Access appointment at Dental Access Centre within 7 days if there is a problem which is non-urgent and the patient is not registered with a dentist.
  • Treatment or advice is given to relieve immediate pain but patients are then encouraged to register with a practice to receive ongoing treatment if required.

All calls are answered by specially trained staff and are recorded for training and quality purposes.
