Volunteering: how to apply

Volunteer02-300We are always seeking volunteers to complement the work of the Trust in various wards, departments and areas within the Great Western Hospital and our community hospitals and we have a wide variety of placement opportunities.

We have a duty to recruit and place volunteers in a way that ensures safety for all concerned, so the hospital welcomes volunteers who are over 16 years of age and able to commit to at least three hours a week for a minimum of six months.

The application process

Please contact us on one of these dates to add your name to our recruitment list (the phone lines open at 8.00am):

  • Friday 1 February 2019
  • Friday 1 March 2019
  • Monday 1 April 2019
  • Wednesday 1 May 2019
  • Monday 3 June 2019
  • Monday 1 July 2019
  • Thursday 1 August 2019
  • Monday 2 September 2019
  • Tuesday 1 October 2019
  • Friday 1 November 2019

The recruitment process will then continue as follows:

  1. Your name will be added to our waiting list and an application pack will be sent to you within a week.
  2. Once your completed application form is returned, you will be invited to an informal interview (usually taking place the following month).
  3. At this stage, we will request two references for you and also organise health and DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - please see the Government website - DBS
    (www.gov.uk/government/organisations/disclosure-and-barring-service).
  4. Once all your recruitment paperwork has been received, you will be asked to attend a day's Trust induction training session before starting in your designated placement area.
