Domestic abuse or violence is not gender bias - one in four women and one in six men experience domestic violence.
Domestic abuse is defined as an incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour, including sexual violence.
It is very common and often goes unnoticed.

Domestic abuse exists as part of violence against men, women and children; which also includes different forms of family violence such as forced marriage, female genital mutilation and so called 'honour crimes' that are perpetrated primarily by family members, often with multiple perpetrators.
Charlotte is an IDVA based in our Emergency Department who directly supports victims of domestic abuse, both male and female in a confidential, non-judgemental and non-directive manner, where victims are treated with respect, dignity and sensitivity.
Charlotte can provide you with information and advice on your rights and responsibilities; the options available to you regarding criminal and civil proceedings and attend court to offer support through the criminal justice system where appropriate.
