Emergency Department staff taking part in multi-service event

Staff from our Emergency Department are taking part in a multi-agency training exercise on Saturday to test their response to a fire.

The routine training, which also involves South Western Ambulance Service and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service, gives staff the chance to act out what they would do, practice skills and observe the treatment of burn victims.

The training involves volunteers acting as patients and the use of real equipment so that the scenario is as true to life as possible.

Similar training exercises take place throughout the year to ensure that emergency services are as prepared as possible should a real incident occur.

The exercise will run from midday to around 3.00pm on the Great Western Hospital site.
