Annual Members Meeting

Come along on Thursday, 26 September

Next week, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is holding its annual members meeting for all members. The meeting is also open to any local residents who want to learn more about the Trust's membership or are interested in signing up.

The Trust has 12,000 members who are key to the organisation and the NHS as a whole, and is subject to national standards and performance ratings. It is also directly accountable to the Swindon community who are encouraged to engage and get involved with their local healthcare provider.

This will give residents from the local community, as well as staff working for the organisation, the opportunity to hear more about the hospital's current situation and future plans and to use the time to ask any questions they might have.

At the event, executives will discuss a variety of important topics, relating to localised healthcare and both the acute hospital and community services.

The key theme of this year's meeting is the Way Forward Programme, and Trust leads will provide an insight into the £30million funding received from the government, and how this funding will go towards creating a hospital environment that is fit for all in the years to come.

The meeting will also go into detail about the four projects of the Way Forward Programme: extra land purchase, an integrated front door, a Transitional Care Facility and a Private Patients Unit.

Other topics of discussion will include the Trust's strategy for the next five years, its financial position and performance against national standards.

There will also be a number of stalls at the meeting, manned by teams from across the Trust who will be able to give attendees a real insight into the different variety of work that goes on, from both clinical and non-clinical environments. These teams include Research and Innovation and Brighter Futures.

Kevin McNamara, Acting Chief Executive, said: "This meeting gives the people of Swindon and the wider community the option to come together and discuss their local hospital and community services. We are always keen to hear directly from patients, families, staff and the public to understand how we can ensure that the service is working for you.

"There are so many benefits to registering as a member for your local hospital. This includes the opportunity to have a say on the Trust's services, receive an NHS discount and stand for election to the Council of Governors."

The annual members meeting is taking place on Thursday 26 September, 5:45-7:45pm, at the Academy, Great Western Hospital, Marlborough Road, SN3 6BB.

You do not need to register your attendance, but attendees are encouraged to submit questions before the meeting to All submitted questions will be answered on the night.

Anybody who lives in the constituency and is over the age of 12 can apply to become a member. Membership is free. More information can be found at /about-us/members-and-governors/members/.
