Children's Unit noticeboard proves a hit

A new initiative in the Great Western Hospital's Children's Unit is helping young patients to find their voice in the busy ward.

Staff have put together a laundry themed noticeboard to allow patients to air their favourite things about the ward and what they are not enjoying about their experiences.

Feedback notes are shaped as t-shirts for positive comments and paper underpants to share the worse aspects of being in hospital.

Claire Evans, Ward Manager, said: "It's really lovely to hear what the children have to say as we are always looking to improve the ward experience.

"The children love it and last month we had a full washing line.

"It's great because you hear the child's voice, most of the feedback we collect is written by their parents."

The washing line has proved a hit across the ward, with patients being encouraged to let staff know how they are really feeling.

One colourful note read: "Thank you so much, you all do an amazing job."

Another comment read: "The staff are friendly and caring! Looked after me well and didn't make me sad! Thank you to you all! Carry on with what you are doing xxxx"

The team are also keen take the negative comments on board, with one patient writing that the custard was "a bit thin" and another commenting that they wished they had some friends in hospital.
