Start a career in the NHS immediately after graduation

Student nurses expecting to graduate this summer can get a headstart on landing their first NHS job by attending a special recruitment event this weekend.

Taking place on Saturday 24 March, the event will be an opportunity for up-and-coming nurses to find out more about the employment opportunities at the Great Western Hospital once fully qualified.

However, students keen to start earning straight away can join the team at GWH as soon as they leave university, and prior to receiving their registriation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, through the Swindon hospital's Graduate Programme.

Students entering the profession via this route will start off in a Band 4 position, before moving up the payscale to a registered nurse position the moment they receive their unique PIN from the NMC.

A feel for nursing in Swindon

Those coming along on the day will be able to chat with existing members of staff, have a tour of the hospital's modern facilities and generally get a feel for what it's like to work as a nurse in Swindon.

Joining the team at GWH comes with a host of benefits including dedicated study leave, the support of an experienced mentor and regular developmental and career progression opportunities.

As Wiltshire's largest hospital, new starters will be able to choose a career from a diverse range of clinical areas, such as theatres, elderly care and emergency medicine.

The recruitment event, which will be held in the Academy on the lower ground floor of the hospital, will be open on a drop-in basis between 10am and 3pm.
