Calling on patients and visitors to help spread Christmas cheer

Great Western Hospital is calling on patients and visitors to help spread Christmas cheer across the hospital with festive thank you messages for staff.

In the run up to Christmas the hospital is inviting the public to send a Christmas card to a member of staff or a team in recognition of the good care they have received in the last 12 months.

Oonagh Fitzgerald. Director of Workforce and Education for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Our amazing staff work incredibly hard all year round and especially so at Christmas.

"It is often easy to forget that while we are enjoying quality time with our loved ones on Christmas Day, there will be hundreds of dedicated staff all around our organisation, and at hospitals all over the country, who will be working hard looking after their patients.

In a busy NHS Trust we don't always get the chance to step back and reflect on the difference our staff make to people's lives.

With Christmas being a time for reflection, it is a great opportunity to for patients, their relatives or their friends to say a special thank you to staff who have gone the extra mile for them this year."

Santa Claus, accompanied by a trusty elf helper, will then make a special stop at GWH in December to personally deliver all the special Christmas cards and messages to staff.

Oonagh continues:  "These Christmas card messages will be a fantastic way for the public to spread some Christmas cheer amongst our staff who I know will appreciate the thanks."

To get involved, simply write your Christmas message inside a card, complete with the recipient's name and ward or department, and post it to:
