Abseil for GWH as part of their 10 year anniversary

Great Western Hospital is calling on local people to rise to the challenge and help celebrate their 10 year anniversary by taking part in an abseil 90ft off the roof of the hospital.

The charity abseil will be taking place Saturday 8th December as part of a week of celebrations to commemorate 10 years since the hospital opened its doors on 3rd December 2002.  The celebrations will include a festive carol service, time capsule burial, and the unveiling of the commemorative artwork of babies born at GWH in the last 10 years, which has seen over 200 photos sent in by the public.

The money raised from the abseil will go towards the Trust's Charitable Fund to enhance patient services.  As part of the Trust's Open Day in September last year an abseil was held, which saw 50 participants sign up to take part.

Hannah Persaud, Fundraising Manager said: "Our abseil back in September 2011 for the Open Day was a big success, raising over £7,000.  We had a fantastic response from staff and members of the public and we hope to get the same response this year as we celebrate our 10th anniversary.

Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund makes a huge difference to staff and patients, enabling us to invest in areas that go above and beyond the remit of the NHS budget.

Taking part in this abseil is a fantastic way to support us, raising money for a great cause whilst also embracing the challenge of a lifetime.  There is no doubt that this will be a day to remember, soaring 90 feet in the air with the whole of Wiltshire at your feet."

All participants are encouraged to try and raise a minimum of £100 to take part and a special prize will be given to the individual and team who raise the most money.  Thanks go to Ogbourne Golf Course and The Marriott Hotel for supporting the abseil and providing prizes.

Anyone interested in taking part in the abseil should contact Hannah Persaud on 01793 605631 for an entry form or email  Places in the charity abseil are based on a first come, first served basis so get your entry form in as soon as possible to secure a place.    You can also download an entry form from our fundraising pages and find more information on the abseil.
