The Great Western Hospital is extremely busy

We want to ask local people for their support at what is a really busy time for the hospital.

Please watch this message from Kevin McNamara, our Chief Executive:

 

We are under significant pressure due to the increasing number of COVID and non-COVID patients needing to be admitted to hospital.

This has been increasing daily over the past week.

As we look ahead to the next few days and weeks, we expect this number to increase potentially quite significantly creating even more demand for beds.

Alongside COVID-19, we are also currently seeing a higher proportion of people with viruses, such as flu, and other respiratory and complex conditions.

If you have a loved one at GWH who is ready to go home, please support their discharge home before the weekend so that we can free up our beds for those who need them more at this time.

If you are ever in doubt and unsure of what to do when you have a medical problem, please call NHS 111 first, instead of worrying, self-diagnosing or second-guessing what to do.

NHS 111 will direct you to the right local NHS service for you at the time.

By phoning 111 we can be sure you are sent to the right place, first time.

The service is free to call and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or you can use the website at NHS 111 website (www.111.nhs.uk).
