Steph's story

Steph Timms took part in the Trust's Return to Practice course in Children's ED.

Steph _Timms

Having previously been a qualified nurse in the Special Care Baby Unit at the Great Western Hospital, Steph decided to take a break from work to focus on raising her young family.

As her children grew up, she took jobs outside of healthcare but soon discovered that she missed the buzz of nursing.

After reading about Return to Practice in the local newspaper, she decided it was time to get back her nursing stripes.

Steph said: "I worked so hard to get my qualification and when I was doing anything other than nursing, it felt like all that work had gone to waste.

"I was a bit nervous about putting on the uniform again after all those years, but everyone on the course was so friendly and supportive.

"As soon as I began, I felt like I was back where I belonged and immediately wished I had done it sooner.

"My advice to anyone with a similar sounding story is to just go for it - you definitely won't regret it."

Steph has now completed her training and is once again a qualified nurse.
