Linnet Acute Medical Unit (LAMU)

The unit's primary role is to provide rapid definitive assessment, stabilisation, investigation and treatment for patients admitted urgently or as an emergency from the Emergency Department, and/or referred by their GP.

The LAMU admits patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Patients stay on the LAMU for up to 48 hours, during which time a care management plan is initiated by a consultant acute physician.

Following treatment on the LAMU, patients may be well enough to be discharged back into the community; or if requiring further inpatient specialist care, are admitted to the care of an appropriate specialty team within GWH.

Both LAMU and the Kingfisher Ambulatory Care Unit are supported by our Radiology and Cardiac Physiology departments and Intermediate Care.

Visiting times

Receiving visitors is an important part of the recovery process, and so they are welcome at any reasonable time.

We just ask that consideration is given so that all patients are able to rest as much as they want.
