Infection control statistics

MRSA and clostridium difficile cases

In 2013/14 our Trust hospitals reported:

  • 5 cases of MRSA bacteraemia (blood stream infection)
  • 26 cases of clostridium difficile infection

Our quality indicators for 2014/15

Each year new performance indicators are set for the Trust, for this year the quality indicators we are measured against are as follows.

For GWH, including the community hospitals

  • MRSAB (Meticillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia) - 0
  • Clostridium difficile - no more than 28 cases

Each case of infection is investigated by the clinicians involved in the care of the patient and the IP&C team and any lessons learned are shared with appropriate clinicians.

Annual Report

Please see the Infection Prevention & Control Annual Report 2014/2015.

Other infections

Although there are no set quality indicators which we are required to work towards, we also routinely report our performance in relation to the number of cases of MSSA (Meticillin Sensitive Staphylococcus Aureus bacteraemia) and E Coli (Escherichia coli) bacteraemia.
