Assessing fitness to drive

Fitness to driveAll patients with ICDs or CRT-Ds have restrictions on driving imposed by the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).

They cannot drive after receiving a shock from their defibrillator.

We will need to assess you in Pacing Clinic to assess why you received a shock, and if it was appropriate, and this will dictate how long you must refrain from driving.

For the most current fitness to drive criteria please see UK Government website > Assessing fitness to drive (www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/medical/ataglance.aspx)
