We provide a comprehensive Outpatient Musculoskeletal service from nine main sites and a limited assessment and advice service from some GP surgeries across the county.
We cover all age ranges, providing assessment, treatment and advice for a wide range of conditions from tennis elbow and back paing to rehabilitation following surgery.
Our aim is to reduce pain, increase movement and strengthen muscles and improve function to promote a healthy lifestyle full of confidence and independence.
Once we have received your referral, either from your GP, Consultant or other health professional, we prioritise it to assess how quickly we need to see you. We try to see everyone as soon as we can and treat everyone with respect and dignity.
If we need to see you quickly, you are very likely to get a phone call from us, offering you an appointment within the next few days. If you have had the problem for more than six weeks it is likely that you will receive a letter from us asking you to contact a specific physiotherapy department to organise an appointment. You may then receive a text message reminding you to attend your appointment.
Your first appointment On your first appointment please bring with you a list of your medication, reading glasses (if necessary) and shorts if you will be uncomfortable just being in your underwear. You will have a thorough assessment and physical examination where you are very likely to be asked to undress. After this assessment you and your Physiotherapist will discuss and agree the next steps. This may be just advice and/or exercises. It may also involve more hands on treatment such as mobilisations (manipulations) or deep tissue work or exercising in a group.
The number of treatments will vary with each individual, but this can be discussed with the Physiotherapist after the initial assessment. Follow-up appointments will be booked by you to be as convenient as possible.
If you do not attend your appointment and do not phone within 24 hours with a valid reason for not attending, you will be discharged.
