If you develop complications during your pregnancy or have a
complex pregnancy (for example, if you have diabetes, are having
twins, or develop pre-eclampysia) then you will be referred by your
Midwife to one of our 11 condition-based clinics at Great Western
Hospital (if you have decided to come to Swindon for your
birth) or to a specialist clinic run by a Consultant Obstetrician
at the Princess Anne Wing, Bath.
Each specialist clinic is run by a multidisciplinary team who
have specialist expertise in your condition which means that you
and your baby are placed at the centre of care. We will involve you
any decisions that need to be made and ensure that visits to the
hospital are kept to a minimum.
In recognition of this innovative approach to supporting women
with complex pregnancies, our team has been awarded the Health
Foundation's Shine Award new ways of delivering high quality care.
