Work Experience
Young people are our workforce of the future and we are keen to raise awareness of the careers available in the health sector. We offer work experience placements to students where possible to offer young people the opportunity to make informed career decisions.
Our work experience placement will:
- increase your awareness of the different careers available in the NHS and at the Trust
- provide an introduction to working practices, such as attendance requirements and working conditions as well as providing training in basic functional skills
- provide an insight into working in a hospital as well as an opportunity to meet our staff.
Ward based work experience placements (aged 15 years and above)
You will be given the opportunity to observe the daily life of staff working on wards. Shadowing one of our Nursing Auxiliaries, you will see how members of the multi-disciplinary team work collaboratively to provide care for patients.
Applying for a work experience placement
We endeavour to place all students who request a placement with a Trust. However we do experience extremely high levels of demands on certain dates so we may not be able to accommodate your initial request. We restrict work experience placements to a week, to ensure we offer as many placements as possible.
To apply, please complete the work experience application form (Word document) and send to: tgw.recruitment@gwh.nhs.uk
Observership programme (Aged 17 years and above)

Held during school term times, this two day programme provides a group of students with the opportunity to meet with Consultants and Clinical Nurse Specialists and to observe them in action.
