Other ways to volunteer

As well as the many different ways in which volunteers help within the Trust (please see Volunteering opportunities), there are other ways in which they help through other organisations closely linked to the Trust.

British Red Cross Services

The Home from Hospital Service offers short-term assistance (for up to 4-6 weeks) to patients who have been discharged from The Great Western Hospital and live in the Swindon area.

Volunteers help patients to settle back home and to adjust back to their daily living skills.

They offer companionship, do shopping, collect prescriptions, perform light domestic tasks and accompany them out of the house where applicable.

Please see the British Red Cross (Swindon) website.

Changing Faces

Changing faces is a charity for people and families who are living with conditions, marks or scars which affect their appearance.

Please see the Changing Faces website (https://www.changingfaces.org.uk).

Hospital Radio

Volunteers provide a professional radio service to patients.

Duties include visiting wards for requests, and assisting programme presenters.

Please see the Hospital Radio Swindon website (www.hospitalradioswindon.org).

Royal Voluntary Service

Volunteers provide this service to the wards and a hospital escort service pushing wheelchair users to and from various departments and clinics around the hospital.

Please see the Royal Voluntary Service (Gloucestershire and Swindon) website (www.royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk/service/1462-gloucestershire-and-swindon).
