About us

The Dispensary provides the medication required for all of the hospital's patients when they are inpatients on the ward and at discharge when they are ready to go home. We also provide medication for outpatients after attending their appointments in specific specialist clinics.

Our manufacturing unit prepare a variety of items in a controlled, sterile environment, including chemotherapy, intravenous nutrition and certain specialist creams/ointments/liquid formulations.

We work together to ensure that medicines are used safely and effectively to improve the medical care and quality of life of patients. We liaise with medical and nursing colleagues to ensure that the right medicine in the appropriate presentation is given to the right patient at the right time.

The Pharmacy has around 70 members of staff including:

  • Pharmacists
  • Pharmacy Technicians
  • Pharmacy Assistants
  • Clerical Support Staff

 Every month we issue:

  • 13,000 Inpatient and Discharge items
  • 2200 Outpatient items
  • 16,000 ward stock packs
  • 750 items of specially-prepared chemotherapy
