Transfer of services to Virgin Care on 1 April

New provider of community child health services in Wiltshire

As previously reported, from 1 April community healthcare services for children and young people in Wiltshire will transfer to Virgin Care, who will provide these services across the county for the next five years.

Virgin Care, part of the Virgin Group, is an independent provider of NHS and local authority services, specialising in community services.

This follows a decision by Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Wiltshire Council and NHS England, to ask Virgin Care to provide all children's and young people's services across Wiltshire, currently provided by five different providers.

This means that families across Wiltshire will now all have access to the same level of healthcare regardless of where they live in the county.

The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust team who currently provide these services were recently awarded a rating of 'outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission.

These same staff will be working with Virgin Care from April, continuing to work with the same local families, providing the same high quality care and support to local children and young people.

We will be working closely with Virgin Care until the end of March and are confident that they will develop a service which continues to meet the individual needs of families across Wiltshire.

Services currently provided by Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which will transfer to Virgin Care include:

  • Health visiting
  • School nursing services
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Specialist community nursing and continuing care
  • Learning disabilities
  • Child health information services
  • School age immunisation
  • Family nurse partnership
  • Community Paediatrics
  • Safeguarding children
  • Looked after children health service
