Trust provides space for new Prospect Hospice centre

End of Life Care - 150210aFollowing a rating of good by the Care Quality Commission at the beginning of the year, the Trust's end of life services received another boost in the shape of a new end of life care centre at Savernake Hospital in Marlborough.

The new Outreach Centre, which is run by Prospect Hospice, was officially opened on Tuesday 9 February by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall during a ceremony in which she met staff from the Trust as well as volunteers and donors who helped raise the funds needed to bring the new centre to Marlborough.

Kevin McNamara, Director of Strategy, said: "Everyone at the Trust is absolutely delighted that our unique partnership with Prospect Hospice has been able to bring vital end of life care closer to home for so many people living in Marlborough and the more rural areas of Wiltshire.

"We know how much stress and anxiety is associated with travelling long distances for care, so we're extremely pleased to have been able to provide the space at Savernake Hospital for this new outreach centre. I'm certain it'll make a massive difference to so many local people."

End of Life Care - 150210bThe space for the Outreach Centre at Savernake Hospital was provided by the Trust to Prospect Hospice as part of its ongoing commitment to bringing care closer to home for people across Wiltshire.

Angela Jordan, Chief Executive of Prospect Hospice, said: "The Duchess's visit highlights the fact that we are now making our Outreach Services available to people who live in Marlborough and the surrounding area, where previously they would have needed to travel many miles to access our care at the Hospice in Wroughton.

"We are glad that the people of this community clearly shared our view that bringing our care and support closer was a significant development for local people."

First opened to patients at the end of last year, Prospect's Outreach Centre will offer patients a whole range of day services, from physiotherapy and occupational therapy, to anxiety management and wellbeing days.
