Advice for patients coming to hospital during the junior doctor strike

Posted: April 5, 2016

Unless contacted, attend as planned

On Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 April, junior doctors across the country, including many at the Great Western Hospital, will take part in a strike which will see them provide emergency care only for 48 hours.

On these dates we will be offering a Bank Holiday style service, meaning some routine operations and outpatient clinic appointments will have to be postponed.

This is so that we can prioritise patients needing emergency care and other patients needing urgent care, such as cancer patients.

Unless contacted, attend as planned

Patients booked to attend hospital on the affected days will have already been contacted by us directly if their appointment has been affected.

Unless contacted, patients should assume their appointment is still taking place and attend hospital as planned.

Emergency patients and women in labour should also attend as normal.
