Health talk at GWH reveals all about pregnancy!

Local people are invited to learn more about pregnancy at a special health talk being held at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

Members of the public and staff are invited to learn everything they need to know and more about conception, pregnancy and labour from consultant obstetrician Dr Nusrat Fazal.

Get the latest expert advice on Wednesday 7 May in Lecture Hall 1, The Academy, Great Western Hospital, 6.30pm-7.30pm. Light refreshments will be provided from 6pm. Everybody is welcome and booking is not required - just come along!

Did you know?

  • You can carry out most pregnancy tests on a sample of urine from the first day of a missed period
  • Conception usually takes place about two weeks after your last period, around the time that you ovulate (release an egg)
  • Common signs of pregnancy include morning sickness, sore breasts and feeling tired
  • About 1 in every 65 pregnancies in the UK today is a twin pregnancy, which means that about 1 in 32 babies born is a twin.

This is the second in a series of health talks organised by the Trust. Vimbai Lyons, Governance Officer, who organise the health talks, said: "Whether you're thinking of having a baby or are already pregnant, come along, ask questions and chat to others. If you're interested in midwifery this is an excellent opportunity to learn more and improve your CV.

"The aim of our health talks is to share the wealth of health related knowledge we have with local people."

Anyone who lives in the area, works for the Trust, or has been a patient or service user, can register as a member of the Trust for free. The Trust already has around 12,000 members who can have their say on patient services, influence decisions and receive regular updates on the latest developments.
