sepsis quizTo mark World Sepsis Day on Saturday September 13, the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is encouraging people to take part in a special week-long quiz.

Designed to make people more aware of the crucial symptoms of sepsis, the quiz will contain all the vital information you will need to spot the early signs.

All you need to enter is access to a computer or smartphone, an active Twitter account and your thinking cap!

The rules are straightforward enough!

  • Two questions will be posted on the Trust Twitter account at 8am and 1pm every day next week.
  • Entrants must Tweet their answers before the next question is asked using #SepsisQuiz.
  • The correct answers will then be sent out via the Trust Twitter account at 7am the following day. (e.g. Monday's answers will be revealed at 7am on Tuesday)
  • Entrants must answer both questions correctly each day.
  • All entrants who've answered all questions correctly will get their name placed in a hat, with the winner being chosen at random.

The winner, who will be announced on Friday afternoon, will receive the coveted Sepsis Quiz Certificate along with a small mystery prize!

What is sepsis?

Sepsis is a life threatening condition that arises when the body's response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs.

It claims more lives than breast and bowel cancer combined. More than 37,000 die from sepsis each year in the UK.

Sepsis can occur following chest or water infections, problems in the abdomen like burst ulcers, or simple skin injuries like cuts and bites.
