First in new series of health talks

Local people are invited to learn more about combating stress at the first of a new series of health talks being held at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

Get the latest tips and expert advice on managing stress on Wednesday 5 March in Lecture Hall 1, The Academy, Great Western Hospital, 6.30pm - 7.30pm. Light refreshments will be provided from 6pm. Everybody is welcome and booking is not required - just come along!

The free talk is by Clinical Psychologist, Dr Jon Freeman, who is an expert in managing stress.

Did you know?

  • Stress causes a surge of hormones in your body. Stress hormones are released to help you deal with pressures or threats, the 'fight or flight' response.
  • Stress can affect how you feel, think, behave and how your body works.
  • Common signs of stress include sleeping problems, sweating, loss of appetite and difficulty concentrating.

Vimbai Lyons, Governance Officer, who organised the health talk, said: "Our Trust is full of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who are experts on health conditions which affect hundreds of people every day, such as stress. The aim of our health talks is to share this wealth of knowledge so local people can learn more about various conditions and how to manage them."

Anyone who lives in the area, works for the Trust, or has been a patient or service user, can register as a member of the Trust for free. The Trust already has 12,000 members who can have their say on patient services, influence decisions and receive regular updates on the latest developments.
