National strike action

Posted: November 20, 2014

Important information for patients

Although this national dispute is with the government, it is likely that some of our
staff, as union members, may take part. We have plans in place to ensure any
disruption to patients is kept to a minimum and have planned our services accordingly.
Our priority is to ensure we maintain patient services and continue to provide safe and high quality care.

Patient services likely to be affected on Monday 24 November, between 7am and midday,
include:

Maternity services at the Great Western Hospital

  • Non-urgent maternity appointments will be postponed until after 11am.
  • Planned procedures on the delivery suite will be postponed until after 11am.
  • Community midwives will be visiting patients from 11am
  • Antenatal clinics before 11am are cancelled.

Maternity patients needing urgent care or treatment will not be affected.

Any patients whose appointments are affected will be contacted at the earliest opportunity. The strike action will not affect patients who need emergency treatment.
