Sleeping Beauty comes to the Children's Unit on 30 August

pantoAlthough the sun is shining, there are many children who won't get the chance to enjoy this summer.  For children that are ill in hospitals and hospices, this time of year can be particularly gloomy and, to bring smiles to these children, Starlight Children's Foundation will be staging performances of Sleeping Beauty in children's wards throughout the UK in July and August.

The pantomime has been staged exclusively for Starlight by the interactive theatre group The Panto Company and it will visit 100 hospitals and hospices over the course of an eight week tour.

At 3pm on Friday 30 August, Starlight's Sleeping Beauty will visit the Children's Unit at Great Western Hospital and the panto's four actors will dance, dazzle and sing for the young patients, their families and the staff.

Every year, Starlight provides entertainment and distraction to over half a million poorly children and the Starlight summer panto will give thousands of poorly children the chance to shout "He's behind you!" from the safety of the hospital ward.

Theresa Wyatt, Play Specialist at Great Western Hospital, said: "It is known that entertainment and play can significantly improve a poorly child's hospital experience and that it helps to distract them from their illness and treatment.  Starlight is a fantastic charity and each year we look forward to the arrival of the Starlight summer panto and the fun and laughter it brings our young patients."

The pantomime is just one way that Starlight brings fun, laughter and distraction to poorly children across the UK. The charity also grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes to children with serious and terminal illnesses.  A Starlight wish gives a seriously ill child and their family a positive focus during the long hours of treatment and happy memories to treasure, whatever the future may hold.
