New Boots pharmacy at GWH

Great benefits for patients, visitors and staff

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is teaming up with high street chain Boots UK to provide outpatient pharmacy services from tomorrow (Wednesday 4 September).

The new pharmacy is located on the ground floor of the hospital and is open to any patient who is given a prescription following an outpatient appointment at the Great Western Hospital. The pharmacy has a private consultation room where patients can talk to a pharmacist in confidence and offers a range of typical Boots UK products including over the counter medicines, lunchtime meal deals and health and beauty products.

As Boots UK will be providing outpatient pharmacy services, the Trust's Pharmacy Team will have more time to spend directly supporting patients and staff on the wards. It is also hoped that outpatients will receive their medicines more quickly, as has been the case in other Trusts who have invested in similar services. The Trust's own pharmacy team will continue to provide inpatient services to patients on the wards.

Jane Coleborn, Chief Pharmacist at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:  "We are really pleased to be working with Boots UK and I know this new service will make a real difference to our patients. Longer opening hours and a great range of products mean a much more convenient service.  Our own pharmacy team will also have more time to spend on the wards with patients and be able to spend more time with staff providing specialist pharmaceutical advice and support."

Peter Bainbridge, Director of Pharmacy at Boots UK added: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to offer the best possible pharmacy service and also bring a great retail offer to the staff, patients and visitors of Great Western Hospital. At Boots UK we are continuously seeking opportunities to provide better healthcare solutions and this partnership not only ensures we are located where customers want and need us most but allows us to work together to provide great patient care."

The new pharmacy will be open from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays.

The usual exemptions apply to anyone who is exempt from paying prescription fees.
