GWH is one of the first to use new, free text message service to raise funds

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be amongst the first charities in the country to use unique personalised text codes to raise funds using JustTextGiving by Vodafone.

This is a brand new, free service for charities that has no set up or fundraising costs for charities, no network charges for people making donations and every penny donated goes to charity.  Gift Aid can also be added to donations.

From today, people can make donations to the hospital's Charitable Fund of up to £10 by texting GWHF00 and either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 to 70070 to make their donation.  The text message is free and all of the donation will be passed to the hospital.

Harry Dale, Deputy Lead Governor at Great Western Hospital said: "This is a wonderful way for us to raise money as it's speedy, simple and spontaneous.  Every donation to our Charitable Fund, large or small, makes a huge difference for our patients and staff, providing the hospital with clinical research, and items of medical equipment and facilities which are outside NHS resources."

A unique text code has also been set up for the new White Horse Birth Centre which opened in March this year.  The Birth Centre is led by dedicated and professional Midwives and provides a homely, comfortable and family centered environment for mothers to give birth.

The Birth Centre team are currently working hard to raise £10,000 to help maintain the home from home environment atmosphere, and make it as comfortable as possible for mothers and babies.  It is now possible to easily donate to the Birth Centre by texting WHBC11 and your amount to 70070.

Lesley Cochrane, Birth Centre Manager at Great Western Hospital said: "Our fundraising campaign has been going very well, and it is great that we can now give our supporters the option to easily make a donation via text.  Most people have a mobile phone these days so we hope it will be a popular way for people to donate to the Birth Centre, and help us reach our target."
