Roger Hill 160Roger Hill, Chair

Roger became Chair on 3 February 2014.

He has been a Board member since 2008 and so understands the Trust very well.

Until 1999 he had been both the Chairman and Managing Director of the UK subsidiary of Intergraph Corporation, a large American computer company.

Subsequently, he has been a Board Director of a number of IT services companies, both in the UK and Ireland.

Since 2002 he has been serving as a Governor of Newbury College. 

Nicholas Bishop 160

Dr Nicholas Bishop, Non-Executive Director

Nick was a consultant general and interventional radiologist and Brighton Health Care's first Trust Executive Medical Director.

He was Medical Director in United Bristol Healthcare NHS Trust at the time of the Bristol Inquiry into paediatric heart surgery.

He was then Assistant Medical Director to the Commission for Health Improvement, retaining a radiology commitment in Bristol.

For many years Nick was on the Board of the British Association of Medical Managers (BAMM) including a fixed tenure as its Chairman. 

Nick remained in a senior advisor role in the transitions to Healthcare Commission and Care Quality Commission (CQC).

He is an Education Associate with the General Medical Council (GMC) and was appointed to the National Advisory Group on Clinical Audits and Enquiries in 2014. 

He chairs the GMC's visiting team that is overseeing the new medical school at University of Buckingham, and is a member of its Quality Scrutiny Group. 

Nick ceased his radiology practice and retired from employment with CQC in September 2015 but he continues to chair CQC inspections of acute and specialist hospitals as a Specialist Advisor.

Andy Copestake 160Andy Copestake, Non-Executive Director

Andy joined the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Board on 1 July 2016.

He has held a number of senior finance positions in the private, public and charity sectors.

From the late 1990s until May 2016, he was the Director of Finance at the National Trust in Swindon.

Prior to that, he was the Finance Director at St Mary's NHS Trust in Paddington, a major London teaching hospital.

His early career was spent at Thorn EMI in their Home Electronics division in a variety of finance and operational roles.

He is a certified accountant and has lived in Swindon for many years.

He sits on the Finance, Investment & Performance, Audit, Risk & Assurance, and Governance Committees.

Jemima Milton 160Jemima Milton, Non-Executive Director

Jemima has been involved in local government for the last 14 years - first as a Councillor on Swindon Borough Council, holding a number of Cabinet positions.

She was then Councillor on Wiltshire Council, where she took a key interest in health and social care.

She was an active partner in the family farm with her late husband, when she also ran a catering company, and then a bed and breakfast business.

Jemima is a member of the Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee, the Governance Committee, the Remuneration Committee, and the Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act Committee; and she is Chair of the Workforce Strategy Committee.

Stephen Nowell 160Steve Nowell, Non-Executive Director

Steve started his career as a lawyer working in private practice and in a number of industries before moving into management.

He was a divisional director of Nationwide Building Society for 10 years and as such was responsible for leading a wide range of risk and control functions, as well as being part of the organisation's senior leadership team looking at the its wider strategy and performance.  

Steve became a Non-Executive Director on 1 June 2014 and is Chair of the Charitable Funds Committee and a member of the Finance and Investment Committee and Governance Committee.

Julie Souter 160Julie Soutter, Non-Executive Director

Julie is currently Interim Chief Operating Officer for the Energy Systems Catapult, a technology and innovation centre, which transforms ideas into new products and services in the energy systems sector.

With management experience in a variety of roles in the professional, private and public sectors, she has been a Non-Executive Director since 1 January 2015.

Recent roles include Director of Finance and Operations for the Chartered Institute of Housing, and Head of Operations at Innovate UK - an organisation which supports innovative businesses.

Julie has also held senior positions in the NHS and has experience in organisational change, project management, and service improvement.
