The Academy

Learning never stops and the Trust is committed to supporting individual personal and professional development goals wherever possible. Our on-site Academy has a team that co-ordinate a wide range of development opportunities for staff, including:

  • Induction and mandatory training
  • Clinical Skills training
  • Leadership and Management Development
  • Human Resources Workshops covering absence,  conduct, capability and recruitment.

You can have a look at some of the courses we offer.

Staff will also be encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning to maintain competence and confidence in responding to changing clinical practice and technology.

To assist in this, we have developed a range of blended learning approaches from training courses based in the Lecture Hall or Seminar Rooms to computer based learning opportunities; providing a variety of methods to suit individual learning styles, ensuring accessibility by all.  In addition, The Academy also opened a Learning Zone; a specially designated resource space where staff can access information on training courses, access computers, and complete interactive workbooks.

Appraisals

The Trust is committed to staff appraisals during which the knowledge and skills that individuals require to be successful and effective in their role are identified. Each individual member of staff will have an appraisal enabling them to be clear about the expectations and demands of the post, and the knowledge and skills they need to learn and develop in order to meet these expectations.

Opportunities for progression

The NHS is committed to offering development and learning opportunities for all full-time and part-time staff. No matter where you start within the NHS, you'll have access to extra training and be given every opportunity to progress within the organisation. You will receive an annual appraisal and development plan to support your career progression and you will be encouraged to extend your range of skills and knowledge and take on new responsibilities.

All positions with the NHS fall within the Careers Framework, which has been designed to improve career development and job satisfaction for NHS employees.
The framework encourages individuals to learn new skills and take on extra responsibilities that enable them to progress within the organisation. Many people take on additional responsibility within their own area, while others retrain and move in to different roles.  Key elements of the Careers Framework.
